The German American School of Portland offers a well-rounded curriculum that combines challenging academics and high standards with a nurturing, playful environment and an encouraging, supportive faculty.
The program combines the best aspects of both US and world-renowned German standards of education, as well as academic, social, and artistic concerns. The high-quality curriculum adopted from Germany combines serious learning with fun and an emphasis on math, science and musical/art education.
We offer a blended immersion program—all classes except music and English are taught in German. At some other immersion programs, only 50 percent of the curriculum is taught in the target language. Our students orient very quickly to this immersion method even though the majority do not come from German-speaking homes. As one of our preschool teachers says, “I am still amazed and fascinated at how quickly young children succeed in learning a new language.”
