Ashley Parsons

Environmental Education Teacher

I was born in California, raised all over the country, finally settling in the Pacific Northwest. I received my B.S. from Humboldt State University in Wildlife Biology with minors in Environmental Ethics and Communication. In December 2013 I received my Masters of Zoology: Science Inquiry Education, through Miami University. It was a Global Field Program, which encouraged international travel for firsthand experiences with inquiry-driven education, environmental stewardship, and global understanding.  The best part of my education has been sharing these experiences with GIS students, promoting global awareness at the same time as introducing them to ways in which we can make positive local conservation decisions.  My passion for traveling and visiting natural places has guided me through past work experiences at the Wright Wildlife Refuge, BLM, and the Oregon Zoo. I have combined my love for children and nature while working with various parks and recreation departments and of course while building the extended-care curriculum here at GIS. Most importantly I listen to the students so that I build an extended learning environment that speaks to their individual interests. I truly enjoy introducing students to new things and everything nature as well as learning together how we can be the difference the world needs.
