Ashley Parsons

Environmental Education Teacher

ashley.parsons@gspdx.org

I was born in California, raised all over the country (Florida, Illinois, Missouri and more), finally settling in the Pacific Northwest. I received my Bachelor of Science from Humboldt State University in Wildlife Biology with minors in Environmental Ethics and Communication and I received my Masters of Zoology: Science Inquiry Education, from Miami University. Miamiś Global Field Program encouraged international travel for firsthand experiences with inquiry-driven education, environmental stewardship, and global understanding. The best part of my education has been sharing these experiences with GIS students, promoting global awareness of conservation efforts, and learning together how we can be the difference the world needs. My passion for seeing the world and visiting natural places has guided me through past work experiences at the Wright Wildlife Refuge, Bureau of Land Management, the Oregon Zoo and the Tualatin Hills Nature Park. I have combined my love for children and nature while building the Extended Care Program and now the Environmental Education curriculum here at GIS. I truly enjoy introducing students and adults to new things and of course everything in nature. Come explore with us!
