Celebrating Who We Are: Kindergarten Family Museum Opening

Our Kindergarten students wrapped up their “Who We Are” unit with a heartwarming and exciting event — the grand opening of their very own Family Museum! This activity was a wonderful way to celebrate everything the children had learned about family, identity, and how we are all connected in unique ways.

The Family Museum provided an opportunity for students to share special items that represented their families. These personal items were then displayed in the museum, allowing us all to see and appreciate the diversity and uniqueness of each student’s family.

One of the highlights of the event was the opportunity for students to partner with a classmate they hadn’t met before. This encouraged new friendships and cross-class and cross-track (German and Chinese tracks) connections. Students took turns showing their new friends around their family-museum exhibits. It was a wonderful moment of sharing and learning, as the students proudly spoke about their families and took the time to learn about their peers.

Afterward, the children got to share cookies and spend some extra time getting to know each other. This social time not only allowed the students to bond further but also helped foster cross-language track interaction. It was inspiring to see children from both tracks connecting over their shared experiences and growing sense of community.

This activity perfectly encapsulated the spirit of the “Who We Are” inquiry. Our students not only explored what makes their families unique, but they also learned about the importance of building connections with others. The Family Museum was a true celebration of togetherness.
