Celebrating the First Season of GIS Middle School Sports

Fall 2024 marked an exciting milestone for GIS as we launched our very first middle school sports program, with soccer and cross-country offered to our students. This inaugural season has been a wonderful blend of learning, teamwork, and athletic growth. Watching our students step onto the field or course with determination and enthusiasm has been inspiring.

Physical education plays a crucial role in the holistic development of young minds and bodies. Movement, sport, and exercise are not just about building stronger muscles — they’re about cultivating healthy habits, fostering social skills, and enhancing cognitive competence. When students engage in sports, they learn the value of teamwork, discipline, and resilience, all of which contribute to their academic and personal growth.

Our soccer team competed in the Metro Christian League (MCL) in 2024, where we’re on a probationary period before becoming full members in 2025. Despite being a new team, our players demonstrated incredible spirit and sportsmanship in every match. Similarly, our cross-country runners showed grit and determination, taking on challenging courses with energy and enthusiasm. Both programs have laid a strong foundation for future sports at GIS.

Looking ahead, we are excited to offer track and field in Spring 2025, expanding the opportunities for students to explore their athletic potential. In the 2025-26 school year, we plan to add volleyball and basketball, with teams ranging from 3rd to 8th grades. These additions reflect our commitment to making sports a core principle of education at GIS.

As the first Athletic Director of GIS, I am honored to help shape this program. Together, we are building a tradition of excellence in athletics and education, ensuring that movement and sports are integral to our students’ experiences.
