Erhard Steiner

I was born in northwest Germany into a large family and grew up there with many friends, a sailboat, a racing bike, the sports club and the Catholic parish. I didn't like school very much and therefore felt early on that it could be done better. I did my military service, studied in Lüneburg, refused military service, lived in a favela in Sao Paulo for a year, continued my studies in Witten, and then finally started working as a teacher. I had children. (Two of four, 22 and 18, will join me and my wife in Portland). I worked in several schools and gained a lot of experience: From first graders to seriously delinquent youth in some kind of prison, from a governmental school to a small school for truants that I ran myself. I always wanted to evolve, when at some point the habit began to rule my life. And now I am happy to be able to help build the middle school here at GIS.
