Petra Ulm

I was born and raised in Stuttgart in the South of Germany, where I graduated in Business Management. After having a career as the Head of Sales at a local Marketing Agency, my husband and I left for work to come to Portland, Oregon in 2007. Our son Finley was born here and I enjoyed parenting and volunteering at the Oregon Zoo and the Portland Library.

In 2010, we had the opportunity to experience another culture and language and moved to Sao Paulo, Brazil, where our daughter Lilian was born shortly after. Living and exploring Brazil was a very enriching live experience for us and also gave me the chance to work and be engaged in a local orphanage community.

Returning to Portland in 2013, Finley joined pre-school at the GIS and Lilian did so too shortly after.

I have been volunteering at the GIS for many years and discovered my passion for working with and teaching children. In 2020 I started a “learning pod” to help kids managing distance learning during the pandemic. This was a very rewarding experience and fostered my passion for working with children even more. My work as Assistant Teacher at GIS is both a pleasure and honor and I’m grateful for being part of the fantastic GIS community.

In my free time I love spending time with my family and friends, being outside, bicycling, hiking, traveling, doing all kinds of sports, trying new things and enjoying good food.
