Shannon Prince

6th Grade English Teacher

shannon.prince@gspdx.org

My enthusiasm for teaching started early in life and has remained a passion for over 18 years! I am a graduate of Seattle Pacific University with a degree in Communication and George Fox U. with a Master’s in Teaching for elementary and middle school. I’ve had the opportunity to work for the Department of Defense as part of a Special Education teaching team in Bonn, Germany, which is where my language connection began. When I returned to the the U.S. I embarked on a career in adult education teaching about products and systems in the business sector. However, finding teaching and learning alongside younger students to be my true passion, I made the shift back to public education. I taught in Coos Bay, Oregon, for a number of years, until finally joining the GIS team.

I had the good fortune of starting my career with GIS when my son, who is now grown, started kindergarten. The language skills and lifelong learning attitude that he took away from GIS continue to propel him. I am excited to be part of the GIS middle school and continue the tradition of inspiring students! As part of the talented and dedicated middle school team, I am committed to building an environment where students can grow and thrive while learning about the world around them to become open-minded, well-rounded, lifelong learners!
