The GIS IB PYP Exhibition 2024

To cap off their final year as grade schoolers in the IB Primary Years Programme, GIS fifth graders celebrated another successful PYP Exhibition in early June. Months of hard work and collaboration culminated in an informative, engaging, and inspiring day of student presentations to the greater GIS community.

Concentrating on the transdisciplinary theme of “Sharing the Planet,” the fifth graders began their Exhibition process by brainstorming possible issues related to the theme and voting for their top choices as a class. Through preference-based selection, students were sorted into collaborative groups to address shared issues of personal interest. 

In January, each group formulated their own central idea and began conducting research on a self-developed line of inquiry corresponding to their group’s central idea. In February, each group was assigned a parent mentor. The mentors, who came in once a week to meet with their groups, were integral to the Exhibition process: they helped students refine their research queries, facilitated interviews with local experts, and even accompanied students on field trips that allowed them to gain local, firsthand insights into global issues.

After spring break, students began putting together their display boards and brainstorming group presentation formats. Each group developed a unique, 35-minute presentation structure designed to be cohesive, informative, and interactive. By Exhibition Day, the fifth graders were more than ready to share their knowledge with the rest of the school, and they impressed everyone with their leadership, knowledge, and poise. 

The PYP Exhibition allows the learning community to celebrate fifth graders and their growth along every step of their learning journey in the final year of the Primary Years Programme. We are so proud of our fifth graders and all that they have accomplished throughout the Exhibition process!
